Since 1992, Leadership Triangle has been a convener, educator, advocate, and amplifier for some of our region’s most engaged leaders and organizations. To celebrate our 30 year anniversary, we’re telling the stories of 30 Fellows from 30 years of programs. Each Fellow highlighted will represent one year of impact: from 1992, to 2001, to 2022.
Janet Colm (1993)
Janet Colm served as the CEO of Planned Parenthood of Central NC from its founding in 1982 until her retirement in 2014. Under her leadership, PPCNC won a number of awards, including the Affiliate Excellence Awards for Fundraising, Clinical Services Outreach and Expansion, Diversity, and Public Affairs. Happily retired, Colm now enjoys traveling, baking bread, weaving, and taking naps.
Meredith Emmett (1993)
Meredith Emmett has 30+ years of experience in nonprofit leadership as the former Executive Director of the Institute for Southern Studies, NC Community Shares, and Public Allies of NC. She has served on numerous local, state and nonprofit boards and currently serves on the board of Democracy NC. Emmett believes in collaborative action and transformational system change. She gets excited about working with individuals and groups on finding creative solutions to complex problems.
Tom Stevens (1994)
Tom Stevens is a professional facilitator, artist, and former mayor of Hillsborough, NC. He is a connector who enjoys bringing local leaders together to create a community. Read our longer conversation with him here.

Linda Roggli (1995)
Linda Roggli is a professional certified ADHD coach and author with a focus on “women 40 and better.” Linda is an internationally-recognized expert in midlife and senior ADHD, as well as a coach and retreat facilitator. Over the course of her career,Linda has been a radio copywriter, TV reporter and anchor, radio reporter, newspaper reporter, film critic, grants director, ad agency founder, and author. Now she spends her days helping other women with ADHD find ways to flourish.
James Thomas, PhD(1995)
As Professor Emeritus at UNC Department of Epidemiology, Dr. Thomas has studied the social forces that establish patterns of disease in communities. Dr. Thomas’s principal interests are national data systems supporting public health, data ethics, and social forces affecting disease patterns. Dr. Thomas was the principal author of the American Code of Ethics for Public Health, and he has served as an ethics advisor to the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Darryl Lester (1996)
Darryl K. Lester is a cultural philanthropist, social change agent, and national service guru. As the Founder and CEO of the Institute for Building Communities by Design, Darryl promotes civic and community engagement, leadership development, and greater access for young people with mental and physical challenges. Darryl was an early proponent of utilizing collective giving models to affirm and promote greater investment of time, talent, and treasure in Black and brown communities in the South. Suzanne Kirschbaum (1997)
Suzanne has spent her career in the startup and investment communities, serving as a strategic marketing and communications advisor to dozens of venture-backed companies. She began her career as a program director with the Council for Entrepreneurial Development. Suzanne also spent a decade as communications partner at Intersouth Partners, a venture firm focused on seed and early-stage investments. Suzanne has a BS in Management and Marketing from the University of North Carolina at Asheville. She serves on the Advisory Board of the Duke Cancer Care and Survivorship Center and was a founding member of the NVCA’s Strategic Marketing Communications Group.
Margot Carmichael Lester (1997)
Margot Carmichael Lester is a business writer and consultant, and the owner of The Word Factory, with offices in Carrboro and Seattle. An award-winning writer, she’s a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s School of Media and Journalism. Her work also includes consulting with start-ups and Fortune 100 companies on communications and content strategy, workflow optimization and talent management/development. In her free time, Margot loves to cook (and eat out), watch sports, travel and sit on the screened porch with her husband and two dogs.
