Introducing the 2024 Emerging Leaders Goodmon Fellows

The Emerging Leaders Program, powered by Capitol Broadcasting Company and Leadership Triangle, is designed to recognize, support and develop the immense emerging talent at Triangle-based HBCU’s. This Fall, eight students from North Carolina Central University and Shaw University were selected for the program. Each student engaged in an internship with Capitol Broadcasting Company, leadership development workshops with Leadership Triangle, and 1:1 coaching with Triangle-based leaders and mentors. In total, each Emerging Leader completed an astounding 400 hours within the program.

Emerging Leaders 2024 Graduates

Aneesa Muhammad — Aneesa Muhammad, originally hailing from Roosevelt, New York, has been an avid creative writer since realizing multi colored pencils were a possibility. Aneesa serves on her university’s creative writing publication team as a fiction chair, allowing her to continue to cultivate creative voices alongside her own. With longterm experience in education and childcare, she remains an avid advocate for literacy in schools and communities. Aneesa also holds a JLPT N4 level alongside a love for language learning in Arabic, Korean, and Spanish. If shes not reading high fantasy novels, Aneesa can be found bothering her siblings with her detailed book planning or listening to David Bowie on her speakers. She will be graduating from North Carolina Central University in 2026 with a Bachelor’s degree in English.

Caleb Veal — As a mass communication student, concentrating on journalism, Caleb has always had the eagerness to spread information while problem solving. He is a forward thinker, separating himself with his ability to convey messages in different ways and through multiple lenses. Caleb is an avid sports fan.

Corey Ritter — Corey is a community oriented individual who enjoys bringing people together through media. He is currently studying Mass Communications at North Carolina Central University. As a creator, Corey wants to create community through commercials and music.

Danielle Metts — Danielle Metts, originally from Kinston, NC is a graduate business student at NCCU, pursuing a business major with concentrations in General Business & Commercial Real Estate. She has taken her profound knowledge of business and entrepreneurship and became an entrepreneur herself and created two businesses. The two current businesses are Metts Investment Group & Queens Vending, dealing in vending and real estate services. Danielle also supports her community by volunteering in the NBMBAA University Relations Committee & supporting the NCCU Eagle Real Estate Group. It’s truly an honour to be inducted into the Emerging Leaders Program and become a Goodmon Fellow.

Kenyia Mackey — Kenyia is an HR-focused Business Administration student at NCCU (3rd year) with hands-on experience in employee engagement, data strategy, and HR digitization from internships with Capitol Broadcasting Company and Dell Technologies. With concentrations in Human Resources and Financial Strategy, Kenyia is passionate about leveraging data and innovative strategies to enhance workforce engagement and optimize HR processes. She is eager to connect with professionals in ALL fields to drive meaningful change within the Human Resources and the corporate world. Outside of the office, Kenyia serves as secretary for the Society of Human Resources Management and as the student ambassador for the Real Estate Group on campus. Kenyia enjoys reading, learning crochet patterns, and playing Sims when she finds a little bit of time for herself!

L’Asia Jackson — L’Asia Jackson is a senior honors student at Shaw University, majoring in Exercise Science. With a passion for social media strategy, graphic design, and sports, she brings creativity and dedication to all her endeavors. L’Asia began her collegiate journey at Sandhills Community College, where she played volleyball for two years and earned an Associate of Arts in Teacher Preparation. After transferring to Shaw University in January 2023 as a student-athlete, she transitioned into student leadership roles. She now proudly serves as Miss Senior, Greek Life President, and Vice President of the Omicron Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated. L’Asia is committed to learning, mentoring youth, and inspiring others.

Mesa Jones — Mesa Jones, originally from Maryland, has made North Carolina her new home since 2021. Jones attends North Carolina Central University as a mass communication student with a concentration in broadcast media. She is set to graduate in May of 2025. Jones is the co-editor in chief of NCCU’s newspaper The Campus Echo. Jones also has held 4 internships, including the Emerging Leaders program where she interned at WRAL as a multi platform news intern. She has also interned at Duke University in their university communications department and at Duke Department of Medicine as a multimedia intern. She deeply values professional and academic growth, creativity and self respect. It excites her when she is given opportunities to expand her skill set and if it’s not given, she will find one. She also values collaborations with other like-minded individuals to ensure professional growth.

Micah Edwards — Micah Edwards is a junior at North Carolina Central University from Goldsboro, NC. He is passionate about a career in sports production, especially replay operations. His experience as a Sports Production Assistant for NCCU and UNC-Chapel Hill has equipped him with solid skills in replay systems, camera operation, graphics, and scorekeeping. These roles have taught him the importance of precision, quick thinking, and delivering high-quality results in high-energy environments. On campus, he is actively involved in organizations that push him to develop his skills and expand his network. As part of Eagles Eye View, I work with a creative team to capture and share the energy of our sports culture, and as the social media chair for Men’s Collegiate 100, He has enhanced his skills in digital communication and leadership.
