We invite you to continue reading to learn more about this month’s Fellow Spotlight, Terrance White.

What was the primary impact of the Transforming Leaders program on your life?
Leadership Triangle has allowed me to navigate and realign myself to my true north. The leadership sessions and interactions with my cohort allowed me to access and engage in the direction necessary to maximize my potential. Life is a series of adjustments, choices, decisions, and the refinement of plans. We often find ourselves constantly pulled in multiple directions, seeking an ideal land of peace and productivity. Life resembles a series of up-and-down roller coasters. Therefore, we must have a solid philosophy and a robust code. Leadership Triangle offered me experiences, individual readiness, reflection, feedback, and support to navigate life’s challenges effectively.

Did you make any meaningful connections during or after the program?
My peer coach, Nick Allen, connected me with Dr. Henry McKoy. Dr. McKoy has become a lifelong friend and mentor over the last few years as we navigated the economic challenges faced by the Durham Community through the Hayti Reborn group and Durham Committee on the Affairs of Black People. With Dr. McKoy’s guidance, I have dedicated most of my time to developing myself to uplift and establish biotech ecosystems within the Black community. This mission has become my true north star.

How do you feel you make an impact in the community?
In high school, I often said, “I will be a great navigator. I will lead people down paths they never thought possible. I will create a community driven by the efforts of its people rather than a management system. I will strive to build a world where we can envision a community prioritizing collective public interest over individual private interests.” Through these words, I breathe life into my commitment to positively impact any community I engage in. My mission is to infuse new and innovative ideas into any situation by bringing together collective minds. I contribute to the community by fostering connections and navigating towards positive change.

If you could only read one book for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
I would read What is Worthwhile by Anna Brown because friendship and connection to people are life’s true values. Life is not about leaving material aspects behind; it is about genuinely connecting the people around us via time, affection, patience, love, strength, and even laying down our lives. That is truly what is worthwhile.

What is one fun fact about yourself?
I have recently entered into one of the most beautiful, patient, and graceful stages of life. I have become a father to a beautiful baby boy, Toussaint Jide Ray White.
